Letter from the President Fall 2008

To the Premier Santa Gertrudis Association Members

September 16, 2008

Fall is finally in the air! Hope everyone survived the hot summer unscathed. I wanted to take a few minutes to let all the PSGA members know what’s been happening thus far. This year started off great, a new board was elected and the new officers took their posts in January. Our first meeting was held the same month in Fort Worth during the Stock Show. This year’s show was dedicated to a great man, Mr. Jim Theeck, who was the manager of Mayfair Ranch for many years.

February the board met again to discuss the budget for this year and we passed the new committee chairs. All old business was tended too and new business was discussed. This years board has a great “get to it” attitude. It has been a great honor working with them. Everyone has pitched in and contributed in every way possible. We started preparing for the Red River Sale in April that was held at Pitchford Genetics in Athens. Darrell and Shana always make every one feel welcome and always provide us with a beautiful facility and the accommodations of home. Thank you both for always making us feel welcome.  Even though we had less cattle than anticipated, it turned out to be a good sale. We followed the sale with a board meeting, as usual, to prepare for May’s Junior Show.

May was a super month. We had a great turn out for the Open and Junior Show. The Pitchford Genetics facility was once again our host. A lot of people really worked hard to make this event successful. A special thanks to Darrell and Shana Pitchford, Rick and Pam Thomas, Donny and Joy Minix, as well as the rest of the board members, you all did a fantastic job. As the show ended, the board immediately began preparations for the 56th Annual Premier Summer Sale in West.

What a great crowd! There were lots of old friends and several new people that attended the sale. Friday before the sale we got to sit down together and have a great dinner. The awards ceremony followed the dinner, what a great time we had. It’s always fun to sit down together and talk ranch business with our fellow members. I really enjoyed myself down there. Hope that every one else had a good time as well.

Our next board meeting is set for October at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas. We are looking for nominations for next years’ board. Everyone is invited to attend the meeting. If you have someone you would like to nominate please feel free. I would like to see as many people involved as we could get. This economy has put some strains on our business but together we can keep our breed of cattle strong. The annual meeting will take place in January at the Fort Worth Stock Show. Make plans now to attend.

In closing I would like to thank every one for this wonderful opportunity to serve as your board President. I hope in some way I have been able to help you all as much as you have helped me. I would like to extend my deepest and sincerest condolences to the Minix family, Donny lost his father, Bob, this year, to the Pitchford family, who lost their baby, to the Briggs family, who lost Robert Jr., and to the Cummins family, Brian lost his father recently. Our prayers are with each of you and your families. If I can be of any assistance to any of you, please feel free to call or email me.

Sincerely,
